The geological reservation of the Rooster’s Crest in the Gutai Mountains

The geological reservation of the Rooster’s Crest is situated in the Gutai Mountains, in the Maramures County, at the approximate distance of 35km away from the city of Baia Mare.
The geological reservation of the Rooster’s Crest in the Gutai Mountains was declared a protected zone in 1954.

The Crest, which gives the name to the reservation, is a sharp crenel mound from an old volcanic vent of 200m long, situated at the altitude of 1200m, almost vertically oriented, on the north-west-south-east direction. The geological reservation of the Rooster’s Crest belongs to the 3rd category of protected areas – monuments of nature, its purpose being the protection and conservation of the natural elements of ecological, scientific and landscape value.
It is a natural area with a diverse fauna and flora. The cliff is an attraction for the climbers and paragliders who are constantly present on the Rooster’s Crest because they have special conditions to practice their favorite sports.
